Installing and Testing the VoiceLog Audio Player

Purpose

The VoiceLog Web Interface allows for fast and easy review of VoiceLog transactions for the purpose of identifying valid orders and, when required, transcribing the customer’s name and address.

PC Requirements

  • Pentium class IBM compatible PC
  • 33.6Kbps or faster modem
  • 32 Megabytes of RAM or higher (more memory is better)
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer Version 5.0 or higher
  • Internet service provider with World Wide Web access at 33.6Kbps or faster
  • Sound card and speakers or headphones

Required Software and Security Settings

To use the Web Interface, you must download two softwares, Microsoft’s DirectX and the Voicelog Audio Player, as well as change some security precautions in your web browser.

Downloading the VoiceLog Audio Player

1. You must use Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher. Do not attempt to use Netscape Navigator, CompuServe Information Manager or the version of Explorer you might get from CompuServe or AOL. You can only use the Internet Explorer that was originally installed on your computer or that was directly downloaded from Microsoft. If you use AOL or CompuServe, don't assume that the Internet Explorer they gave you is the right one.

2. Check your connection speed. Unless your connection speed with your Internet provider is 33Kbps or faster, you will have problems. We have a few users with 28.8 Kbps connections, but the connection is very slow.

3. Type in https://tpv.voicelog.net/review when you have accessed your browser.  (Don't enter the "www"; just type it exactly as it appears.)  Click on the link that is displayed below the username and password to access the directions about installing the player.   You will see text that looks like this:

You must acquire the latest Audio Player.    Click Here To Download the Audio Player.    Please e-mail helpdesk@voicemail.net if you have any questions.

Direct X must be installed on your system for this player to function. This program can be downloaded for free from Microsoft. (http://www.microsoft.com/directx)

4. When you proceed with downloading DirectX, you will want to select the "home version" and not the developer's version.

5. When you download the VoiceLogAudioPlayer.exe file, we recommend you do the following:

a. When the window comes up that gives you the choice of running the program or saving it to disk, choose "save to disk".

b. When the next window comes up (labeled "Save As"), you can change the location in the “Save In” window to “Desktop”, or make a note of the folder in which it is saving the file.  You'll also see in the "File name" window that the name of the file is "VoiceLogAudioPlayer".  After you have selected the directory for the program to be saved, or have made a note of the default location, click the Save button

c. Now that the program is saved, you may run it by going to your Desktop or the folder it was saved in.

Hint: If you are uncertain where the program is located, do the following:

  • Click “Start” on your Windows menu
  • Choose “Find”
  • Choose “Files or Folders”
  • Type “voicelogaudioplayer.exe” in the “Named” box, and set the “Look in” to “C:”  (or whatever your hard drive is named).  Make sure you have “Include subfolders” checked.
  • Click on the VoiceLog Audioplayer logo that comes up.

d.   Install the program, following the instructions from the website, as shown below.

Installing the Player
  1. Click on Start in Windows, then Run. Browse for and select the VoiceLogAudioPlayer.exe file.
  2. Click on Next and OK where appropriate.
  3. When prompted for an installation type, choose “Typical”.
  4. If the following message is displayed: Do you want to remove the selected application and all of its components? click Yes. (Note:  This dialog to remove the application only appears if a version of the software is already installed.)  After the software has been removed, it is necessary to restart the installation  by once again double-clicking the setup program (VoiceLogAudioPlayer.exe). Note:  Occasionally, when the system goes through the required reboot, it will hang.  Just turn off power to the computer and reboot manually.  The player will work fine even if this happens.
  5. After the computer boots, acknowledge any messages by clicking OK or Next, and close the audio player window if it appears by clicking the "X" in the upper right hand corner.

Setting Security Procautions

1. Open Internet Explorer and carefully follow the instructions below for changing the security level. After you have changed them and gotten out of that set of menus, go back and check to make sure the changes you made were saved. This is one of the most common places for people to get confused.

  • From the Tools menu of Internet Explorer 5.0, choose Internet option.
  • Click on the Security Tab.
  • Click on the [trusted sites] button, and then click on the [sites] button.
  • Verify that the "Require server verification (http:) for all sites in this zone" is NOT checked.
  • In the [Add this Web Site] to the zone box, enter: https://tpv.voicelog.net
  • Click the Add button, then click OK.
  • Click the custom level button and verify that the following items are enabled or set to the value specified.

-Download signed ActiveX controls

-Download unsigned ActiveX controls

-Initialize and script ActiveX controls marked as safe

-Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins

-Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting

-Allow cookies that are stored on your computer

-Allow per-session cookies (not stored)

-File Download

-Font Download

-Access data sources across domains

-Drag and drop or copy and paste files

-Installation of desktop items

-Launching programs and files in an IFRAME

-Navigate sub-frames across different domains

-Software channel permissions should be set to low safety

-Submit non encrypted form data

-User data persistence

-Active scripting

-Allow paste operations via script

  • Click OK.
  • Click Yes.
  • Click OK.
  • From the tools menu, select 'Internet Options' and then click the 'Advanced' tab.
  • Verify that 'Disable script debugging' is NOT checked.
  • Verify that 'Display a notification about every script error' is checked.
  • Click Apply.
  • Click OK.
  1.   Log in to https://tpv.voicelog.net/review.  Enter the user name and password you were given, and then click Login.
  1. Confirm you can play audio.
  • Change the selection criteria at the top of the VoiceLog CDR Query screen to a Max of 25 (see instructions in the VoiceLog CDR Query section of main document).
  • Click Search at the bottom of the first screen.
  • The next screen should be a table of transactions (VoiceLog Query Result). Click on the first number in the first column of the first row.
  • The next screen is the Record Detail Screen. Change the Audio Selection at the bottom of the screen from None to Prompts.  Make sure that Edit is selected as opposed to View (on the right hand side of the screen, about midway from the top).

8. If audio does not play at this point, you will need to reinstall the player.

9. Start again from the top of these instructions.  You will get the following question since you have already installed the player:

Do you want to completely remove the selected application and all of its components?

Click OK and proceed through step 5.   You will NOT need to do step 6 again.

  1. Repeat steps 7 and 8 above to see if you can play audio.  Remember that Edit must be selected on the Record Detail Screen, and the Audio Selection must be set to Prompts or No prompts (not None or Full Audio).
  1. If you still cannot play audio after following these steps, please review the checklist below, then call us for installation help.
  • Correct browser - Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher, NOT Netscape, AOL or CompuServe
  • Installed DirectX
  • Installed VoiceLog AudioPlayer, in "Custom" mode
  • Changed and checked security settings in Internet Explorer
  • Changed Audio Selection to Prompts on the Record Detail Screen
  • Checked that Edit is selected on Record Detail Screen

Testing DirectX

Although there have been no problems encountered with DirectX, the steps for testing the application are included here just in case.

  • Click Start from the Windows menu.
  • Select Find, then Files or Folders.
  • Enter DirectX in the space for file name. Make sure the "Look in" window displays either the  folder where DirectX was installed or the letter of your hard drive (i.e. C).
  • When DirectX comes up (it has a folder icon), click on it, then click on Setup.
  • Next, click on DxDiag, then click the Sound tab, then click Test DirectSound.  The program will walk you through a series of sound tests.
